OOTD: Fringe + Flare

Tuesday, 27 January 2015
Cape: Boohoo* | Jeans: Boohoo* | Top: Pull & Bear (Spain) | Scarf: H&M (old) | Boots: Asos

It feels fantastic to get out of the house for once, and to actually put in effort for my outfits rather than being all sloth-like at home in my jammies. A lot of bloggers I follow have been raving about flared jeans, so I thought it was time for me to jump on the bandwagon and get myself a pair!

This pair was purchased with store credit from Boohoo, and are soft to the touch without compromising on the structured flare which are oh-so retro. I don't have any jeans in this almost-brilliant blue, either, so it was a pretty good addition to my wardrobe.

I upped the casual 70s vibe with a fringe cape (gifted ages ago at the Fashionchick event) and pointed suede boots, just because when I do a trend, I tend to go OTT! I definitely recommend wearing flares with heels or boots, like I did here, to give you the illusion of mile-long legs. I think I'd look like a stunted tree if I wore my usual flats!

Do keep an eye out for more beauty and food related posts as I try to stop being all narcissistic and stop just posting my outfits!

Grafea Photoshoot

Sunday, 14 December 2014
Coat: Boohoo | Playsuit: Bank Fashion | Heels: New Look | Bag: Grafea | Rings: Holly Molly* and Pylones | Sunglasses: Asos

A couple of weeks ago, I was asked by Amy from Grafea to do a photoshoot with one of their gorgeous leather rucksacks. I agreed, of course!

We met up in the Northern Quarter and shot around the alleys and streets there. There was plenty of traffic (human and vehicular), but I'm overall quite pleased with the shots Amy managed to snap! What you see here is just a small sample of the number of photos we took.

It was freezing cold, and it didn't help that I was braving it in bare legs and heels! Amy was absolutely lovely, though, and directed/composed the shots well. I really wished I could have kept the baby rucksack we used for the shoot, but alas, it's made of genuine leather and really does not come cheap! I had a look at it, though, and the material is amazing to touch and very sturdy. I've had my eye on one for ages, and am definitely getting one for myself once I've saved up enough money.

Also, the purple graffiti in the photos has now been covered up, sadly - in fact, some constructors began to board it up during the shoot! Wasn't it a nice contrast to the outfit I was wearing?

edit: I am currently in Spain for a short holiday, will be updating the blog when I get back xx

OOTD: Fur Trim Dress

Sunday, 7 December 2014
Coat: boohoo | Dress: boohoo | Sunglasses: Asos | Bag: Asos | Shoes: Hidden Fashion

Finally, an outfit post! I've been swamped with events the past couple of weeks, which I've been blogging about, but have managed to capture everything I've been wearing lately. Like I've mentioned before, faux fur is really in this season, and why not? It's super cute and warm, and makes for an interesting texture to spice up any outfit.

I wore this navy fur trim boohoo dress to Rock on Ruby's Christmas party last weekend, and I could hardly believe how flattering it was! I usually shy away from bodycon dresses because I get a little self-conscious about my body, but this fit me like a glove and somehow made me look slimmer. Loads of people loved it and asked me where I bought it from (I think I even convinced a blogger friend to buy one)! I braved the weather with some bare legs, I couldn't do the dress an injustice and clomp around in tights, but did try to have some 'protection' with a long coat.

The dress is in stock in white and black snap it up if you can, it's so worth it! x

Rock on Ruby's Christmas Party

Thursday, 4 December 2014

Last Saturday, I was invited to attend a bloggers' Christmas party courtesy of Rock on Ruby, a slogan tee company based in Manchester and run by my friend, Holly! I think it's so amazing that she's both a blogger and a savvy businesswoman, do check her out.

I haven't been to many events, but I had the best time at Rock on Ruby's party. I was greeted by Holly herself on arrival at Cane & Grain in the Northern Quarter, and had a few hugs with other bloggers I had met before. Then it was straight to the bar, where we were handed some prettily pink and surprisingly Christmassy cocktails made by Cane & Grain's bartender just for the occasion!

There were cupcakes, mince pies and a pick-and-mix (which I very happily took advantage of) to whet our appetite. I also took loads of shots with some other bloggers at the designated photo area, seems like you can see some of that Asian flush going on :s

There were activities going on, too, like a 'design your own slogan tee/sweatshirt' table - I was boring and just wrote 'Full-time online shopper' on mine! I also had fun watching a Frozen-themed make-up demonstration going on near the bar.

My favourite activity was the 'style challenge' the Rock on Rubies gave us, namely matching up their tops with some one-off vintage pieces from Blue Rinse Manchester. You can see mine on my Instagram page, I do hope I win!

Lastly, we were given a preview of Rock on Ruby's new gym range. As a gym bunny myself, I really related to a lot of the slogans and was clamouring to buy everything. I'm definitely getting myself the 'Exercise? I thought you said extra fries!' one for myself, how funny is that?!

Many thanks to Holly and the other Rubies (can I call you girls that?) for the invite, I had such a blast xx

OOTD: Yule Ball

Monday, 24 November 2014
Dress: Jarlo | Clutch: Primark | Bracelet: boohoo | Choker: Dorothy Perkins*

It's officially party season! Last Saturday, I kicked things off with the Singapore Society's Annual Dinner & Dance held at the Palace Hotel here in Manchester. The games and photo booth were very Harry Potter-inspired, and the event was aptly named the Yule Ball.

Having been on the organising committee last year for the D&D, I was really excited to sit back and relax this time round, and I had a really great time! (Kudos to the outgoing committee, you guys did a great job.) My friends and I took multiple turns at the photo booth, plus lots of group shots with the various Christmas trees scattered around the hotel.

I went with red and gold for my very posh look (very Gryffindor, if I do say so myself). This Jarlo dress immediately caught my eye on the Asos site, and since it was so outstanding, I kept my make-up simple and swept my hair to the side for some old Hollywood glam. My accessories were also discreetly sparkly for that party vibe. I especially loved how my pearl choker from Dorothy Perkins, received at the Fashionchick blogger event, gave my outfit that extra retro 'oomph' - I received loads of compliments on it!

I had loads of trouble walking in my dress because of the train, and it certainly didn't help that it was raining - I had to struggle with an umbrella while holding up my train! But thankfully my outfit stayed pristine, phew.

I have loads of events to attend this upcoming week, I can't wait to keep dressing up, but I have to say this is my absolutely fave party outfit I've got planned. x

OOTD: Faux Fur Scarf

Monday, 17 November 2014
Coat: Topshop | Dress: John Zack | Boots: Asos | Scarf: Dorothy Perkins* | Clutch: boohoo

I'm officially feeling like it's Christmas, what with the Manchester markets opening up last weekend! I popped by the Albert Square one on opening night, and immediately headed for my dutch mini pancakes slathered in Nutella - scrummy!

Despite the huge crowds, it was cold out. Luckily I had my brand new faux fur scarf kindly gifted by the Dorothy Perkins team at the Fashionchick event (read about it here). It's very on point for this season, I was actually contemplating buying a cheaper version over at Primark. Plus it looks quite classy, if I do say so myself, layered over my Topshop camel coat (which has been out of stock for ages, I kept checking the website and immediately snapped it up when it came back in stock). My look was completed with a cute collared dress by John Zack at only £10, and a handy rollover boohoo clutch for that effortless feel to a perfect night outfit!

Have you guys been to the markets yet? I'm definitely heading back for some jams and chutneys soon! x

#FashionablyFestive: Fashionchick Blogger Event

Saturday, 15 November 2014

I was kindly invited by Fashionchick UK to a #FashionablyFestive Christmas party the other night, where I caught up with a couple of other bloggers and made loads of new friends over champagne and canapés.  The event was held at Epernay Champagne Bar, which is tucked away upstairs along a side road with plush sofas and a lovely classic vibe.

Dorothy Perkins and boohoo representatives were also present and armed with goodie bags and racks of clothing from their latest collections. I'm absolutely in love with this white faux fur crop jacket from DP, which I tried on last night and is now on sale. (I can almost hear it calling my name!) I was completely blown away by boohoo's #nightsbeforexmas collection as well, which comprises all things sequin and furry - check out the pink coat I'm wearing below!

OOTD: Do the Polka

Monday, 3 November 2014
Dress: boohoo | Hat: H&M | Bag: Topshop | Heels: New Look

Things have been a little quiet around here - I've been showing my friend around Manchester and also enjoying the Halloween weekend! I went as a (rusty) Tin Woman a la The Wizard of Oz, which you can check out on my instagram. I didn't manage to get any really nice photos, but I did have a pretty good time all around!

Another friend of mine recently celebrated her 22nd birthday, and for her party she went with a vintage theme. Obviously, this was really broad, but I went with a 50s vibe with a halter-neck polka dot dress I spied online. How great does it look dressed up! The navy mesh peeking out from the hemline also keeps things modern, and I jazzed up the look with a fire engine red satchel and matching lippy.

Excuse the last couple of shots - I was twirling around to shoot the fullness of the skirt, but lost my balance a couple of times in my heels! :X

Anyway, it's back to school (and tackling coursework) for me this week after all the fun of my break!

OOTD: Happy Halloween!

Friday, 31 October 2014
Coat: boohoo | Dress: Primark | Heels: New Look | Necklaces and Ring: Noviembre

Happy Halloween, everyone! It used to be one of my favourite days back when I was a kid, although Singapore doesn't actually recognise it as a holiday >:( But I lived in a neighbourhood that always pulled out all the stops with the decorations, and there was always trick-or-treating going on, so I have pretty fond memories of October 31st.

This year, I'm going to a friend's Halloween costume party, but here's something else more appropriate to wear out for the day itself. Of course, I went with all the tried-and-tested trends of all-black, lace and gothic jewellery, but don't you just love the overall effect? I especially love the accessories I paired with this outfit, they're so appropriately witchy (details below).

I also invested in new make-up for the occasion, No. 7's matte lip crayon in Raspberry Wine. It's quite long-lasting and is basically a deeper shade of my natural lip colour, and only cost me £9!

How are you all celebrating Halloween? Don't forget to look out for my Halloween costume soon! x
