GlamPalm Hair Straightener

Tuesday, 16 February 2016

Oh my goodness, it's been a while, hasn't it! I've been away from the blogging game for ages due to study and work commitments back in Singapore, but I've decided to talk about my new favourite tech beauty gadget special to Asia.

GlamPalm is a South Korean export specialising in hair straighteners, which can also be used as hair curlers (there are numerous beauty tutorials on this!). The Singapore website offers 2 unique models of varying lengths and plate 'thickness' to cater to all hair types and lengths. I found this really considerate, because not all Asian girls have sleek hair on the thinner side.

The most attractive feature of the GlamPalm straighteners has to be the Healing Stone Technology it uses. Essentially, this means that all the straighteners have a built-in heat control mechanism, so your hair doesn't burn and the damage is minimised even when you accidentally leave a lock of hair in between the plates for too long. Of course, I don't exactly advise trying it out for fun, but the technology is handy for us girls who don't use heat protection spray!

I've never been one to do much with my hair, but the weather back home is extremely humid and I've been experiencing a lot of trouble with taming my wild mane. Enter the GlamPalm 313, which I was recommended for my length and thickness of hair. I found it a bit tricky to use at first, being unaccustomed to such devices, but with shaky hands (and a lot of effort) I managed to craft some gentle waves in my otherwise frizzy hair! See below for yourself!

I do believe that with a bit of practice and experimentation, the GlamPalm would be a fabulous tool for everyday use. I've been wearing my hair in braids a lot this week, so might try factoring the GlamPalm into my early morning routine to create some soft curls!

I've also found out that GlamPalm is offering SGD$15 off (UP $289) when you use the code "Smitten15"! So hurry and grab one before this Chinese New Year period ends (and before the 313 model runs out, it's done so numerous times before)!

Special thanks to the Smitten Team for this generous sponsorship!

Magnitone Lucid Cleanser

Tuesday, 12 May 2015

The new 'in' thing with skincare are undoubtedly electronic facial cleansers, such as Magnitone and Clearsonic, just to name a few. I've heard so many good things about Magnitone Cleansers from fellow bloggers and Youtubers, so when The Bloggers Hub offered me a chance to be gifted with one, I jumped at it!

Swag My Case

Friday, 30 January 2015
iPhone 6 case: Swag My Case*

My parents were kind enough to send me a brand new iPhone 6 for Christmas to replace my old phone, which was really on its last legs. I was so excited to be getting it! I'm not exaggerating when I say my phone is glued to my hand 24/7, and contains practically my whole life - email, Instagram, Facebook... Plus, it's such a handy tool to keep up with the blogosphere and it's equipped with a great camera for impromptu Instagram shots.

Since so much of my life is in my phone, I knew I had to get a phone case which was not only durable, but reflective of my personality. Swag My Case were kind enough to offer me one of their unique phone cases, which are designed by a diverse group of independent artists. With such a large pool of different designers, I believe that there is truly something for everyone. Their cases also come in either a plastic or 'tough' shell, which has an additional silicone case, and what's great about them is that they have fits for all phone models, even the really old ones.

I picked the 'Eggs n Bacon' design by Emily Coxhead, which is so apt since I have a penchant for breakfast food! Plus it's a stunning baby blue which will definitely make my phone distinctive. Other designs that I really liked can be viewed below, with links:

I've bumped my phone already, but am glad to say that the 'tough' case I picked has protected my phone really well. I recommend spending that little bit extra to upgrade the plastic case to a 'tough' one, especially if you're clumsy like me!

OOTD: Grid Jumpsuit

Sunday, 25 January 2015
Trench coat: Primark | Cardigan: Village Boutique* | Jumpsuit: Coco & Cleo* | Loafers: Asos (similar) | Bag: Primark

I am officially exam-free! *cue champagne bottles popping* And what better way to celebrate than a night out, followed by lunch the next day at Jamie's Italian, where I had their lamb pasta special cooked in red wine sauce.

The end of the examination period doesn't mean the end of winter, though, so I had to dress pretty creatively to wear this gorgeous  jumpsuit kindly gifted by Coco & Cleo. It immediately caught my eye on the website - I'm such a sucker for the grid pattern and monochrome jumpsuits! It's made of a rather thin material and is sleeveless, which clearly can't function even in the sunshine we've been having. I decided to layer up with other favourites for warmer weather, like my old fluffy cardigan and this new coat I picked up from Primark. I've never been one for clashing prints, but tried my best in this outfit!

The Primark coat is an absolutely beautiful almost-beige brown, and I also bought myself a new go-to black sling slash handbag from them. It's roomy enough to store my DSLR, but is lightweight and small enough not to get in the way of the hustle and bustle of student life.

How is everyone else celebrating the end of examinations? Also, I'm thinking of doing restaurant reviews - is anyone interested in seeing posts like that?

Lavand Wishlist

Wednesday, 21 January 2015

I know, I know, it's the exam period, I really should be studying! But after hitting the books for ages and barely seeing the light of day (I even missed the snowfall we had a couple of days ago), I really rejoice in my self-imposed study breaks. I've done a heap of behind-the-scenes blog-related things, and have also satisfied my online shopping needs.

I've recently found a couple new online stores, after being bombarded with the usual Asos, Missguided and Boohoo fans on my social media feeds. One of these finds is Lavand, a boho-chic haven with pretty prints and neutral tones. I selected some items I wouldn't mind having and which could work during this seasonal transition, with links and images featured above. I actually have my eye on that nude handbag in particular, it's roomy enough to store my uni essentials and my DSLR. Most of their products are actually on sale, so this could be a great way to spend some of that January payday cash!

Have a look on their site if you can, and let me know which of the items you like, too!

Feature: OLLO

Wednesday, 3 September 2014
Raymond and Debbie, the couple behind OLLO.

As seen in my latest posts, I've been sporting a new pair of sunglasses generously sponsored by a company I chanced upon at the Public Garden flea.

OLLO is run by Raymond and Debbie, optometrists who decided to offer both practicality and a quirky sense of fashion in their eyewear products. After years in an industry dominated by 'boring' designs, they realised that a niche could be found for interesting, yet flattering, eyewear. Just check out the pictures below for their full range!

Feature: gen.K jewelry

Sunday, 3 August 2014
gen.K Jewelry's booth at the Public Garden flea.

Hey everyone, so today's post will be done a little differently! As you can see, I have loads of photos and outfits to share!

gen.K Jewelry first came to my attention on Instagram - as I browsed its feed, my attention was immediately caught by the unusual focus on jade in all of their products. I don't know about you guys, but I perceived jade as a pretty mature sort of stone usually worn as bangles.

Close-ups of gen.K Jewelry's booth at the Public Garden flea.

As you can see from the pictures, however, gen.K Jewelry took my (mis)conception of jade jewelry and completely turned it on its head! The photos above capture the intricate, hand-crafted pieces from its Series I, Simplicity and Wood collections, which are stunningly pretty and unique. Most pieces are rare one-offs, so purchasers are practically guaranteed that no one else in the world owns an accessory just like the one made by gen.K. They are also extremely wearable, as I demonstrate in my OOTDs below; one piece certainly goes a long way and is age-appropriate.

The driving force behind this budding business is none other than Genevie Lim, a self-taught jewelry crafter. She left her IT job to dedicate her time and efforts to gen.K, which I really respect. And might I add that she's doing a mighty fine job - she's not only found a niche in the current jewelry market, but has already completed three collections in that many months. There's not doubt that this lady is super hard-working, but she is also one of the sweetest, kindest individuals I've ever had the fortune to meet!

Gen and I posing at gen.K Jewelry's booth at the Public Garden flea.

My chosen necklace from gen.K Jewelry in its perfect packaging.

Pictured above is the wacky asymmetrical piece kindly gifted by gen.K - I saw it on their Facebook page in the Wood Collection preview, and just had to have it for its amazing design! Unfortunately, Gen only made the one piece, but do contact her to ask her about the possibility of making another just like it if you wish!

To fully showcase its versatility, I paired my gift with a bunch of outfits. gen.K's necklaces are all great for work, a casual day out and even a date night.

Wearing my necklace to the office!

I was really happy with my piece, which was aptly named Woody Planks. Like all of gen.K's necklaces, its length can be adjusted to suit any top you wear. I personally like to wear my necklaces a little higher, but the adjustable length was a great advantage when I wore a scoop-neck tank.

'Woody Planks' was a great complement to an otherwise casual outfit.

The jade is so lovely on a monochrome colour palette as well - the green is really vibrant and stands out against a blank background, as seen below!

See how the green stands out? Would totally wear this to a lunch or dinner date.

So I've nearly finished with this post - but before I go, Gen and I have agreed to offer all of my readers a very special discount on all of her products! Just quote
"fashioneatstar10off
at the check-out to enjoy a whopping 10% discount. Do read the instructions on how to apply the discount code here. (Thank you so much for the generosity, Gen, you're the best!)

Phew, I think that's it! Thanks for sticking around the whole, long-winded way. :) So what's your take on jade jewelry modernised?
